LYNN KAUFFMAN

Overindulgence has been blamed for dulling the force of surrealism in art and leaving in the movement’s wake wisps of incantations which are incoherent and irrelevant. But Lynn Kauffman has a beautifully-honed collection of surrealistic art work. Most of the work are monochrome pen and ink drawings, although there are also transparent watercolor washes and acrylic paintings. The works could easily have been done under the influence of Kurt Seligman with their spiraling contortions and visionary scenes as though dreamed on the Island of Patmos. Certain characteristics flavor each of her works, as if her message is really allegorical but contained in the world of legend. Lynn seems to be working alone with her own version of the universe and unconcerned with that of others. She does not deprive her objects of their conventional purposes in order to give them new ones, but she does use them in strange situations. Impulses for her art seem to spring from the unexplored realms of her mind breaking from rational vision. She creates irrational visions to fill the void, much as Breton advocated. Each of her works seems to echo the philosophies of Anton Masson and Yves Tanguy. They saw a perpetual struggle between life and death and hunted mysteries presented by the infinity of the sky and the depths of the oceans

Jeremiah is a prolific and extraordinary Atlanta-based fine artist, illustrator and writer. Born in 1979. Specializing in ink illustration, Jeremiah created hundreds of drawings, paintings and graphic designs, as well as poetry, prose and published articles. Jeremiah studied fine art and graphic design at Georgia State University. Jeremiah’s brilliant and eclectic art is filled with wonder, humanity, humor, mystery and beauty. ARTIST’S STATEMENT: I get inspiration from abstract sources: shapes, lines, the textures created by ink, and patterns- basically, pure aesthetics.
